Troubairitz (feat. Azalea Ensemble, Christopher Austin, Anna Snow & Damien Harron)

A 19 track twenty-first century album (1h 14m 44s) — released April 26th 2011 on nonclassical

Troubairitz is the debut release from renowned British composer Tansy Davies. Compositions on the release has garnered praise across the board (New York Times, The Guardian, Ivan Hewitt –Telegraph and Tom Service). Davies' music brings a furious rhythmic energy and is performed with zeal by the Azalea Ensemble.

Central to the record is the Troubairitz collection, a song cycle based on translations of 12 th Century poems by female troubadours. Singer Anna Snow performs these impeccably. Similarly to the music of Nonclassical founder Gabriel Prokofiev, Davies' rhythmic density creates musical material ripe for remix opportunities the results of which form a fitting coda to this varied and powerful debut release. An essential part of the Nonclassical catalogue.
