Nonclassical are excited to release experimental guitarist and composer Tara Cunningham's new albumAlmost - Not Exactly, which sees her step towards a more beat-based sound for the first time. Created with sea shells and driftwood collected on a remote beach in France, these found sounds have been turned into warped beats and combined with an electric guitar bent out of shape and processed beyond recognition.

"I began creating a new body of music in March of last year whilst spending a month in Northern France by the sea, exploring a new, more rhythmic, 'beat'-focussed direction - something I had always been so drawn to when listening to music but never fully pursued in a solo capacity. I collected all kinds of percussive sounds, from rocks and shells and bits of wood; 'found sound' which effectively made up my own unique drum kit. All the pitched sounds you hear - drones, blips, chords and melodies - are from the guitar, albeit chopped up and manipulated through lots of pedals, but it's always the source."

The tracks are accompanied by a stunning set of short dance films made byJemima Seymourand the EP also features remixes by Liam Noble, Morgan Noise andChristos Stylianides.

Tara Cunningham is a guitarist and composer from the UK, whose work focuses on both improvisation and collaboration. Her ever-evolving sound straddles the worlds of alternative music, jazz, experimental, rock, art pop, and the spaces in between.

Current live and recorded projects include: 90s acid-jazz outfit Red Snapper, post-rock four piece Modern Nature, and experimental improvised duo with bassist Caius Williams.

Her solo guitar work comprises her 2023 debut album 'Silence and Noise', and most recently, 'Two, Three', released in April of this year. As a side-person and collaborator, she has worked with Sebastian Rochford, Corrie Dick, Laura Jurd, Liam Noble, Nadeem Din-Gabisi, Natalie Wildgoose, Max Winter, amongst many others.

Her work as a composer for moving image includes 'a loop, of exchanges, until we vomit' with filmmaker Luca Baioni, 'Strange Like It Sounds' in collaboration with Swiss artist Nick Walter, and Pascal Bergamin's 2024 feature film 'Portraits of Dangerous Women'.
